To try to keep some of the original bike’s integrity I’m going to try to build using as many classic parts as possible. Someone mentioned using Campagnolo parts and having looked into the company it seems like a pretty smart direction to take.
So as I mentioned in the last post the first thing I needed to get sorted out was the bottom bracket. My frame has a bottom bracket barrel that is 68mm wide and I’m hoping is 24TPI which makes it a British ISO standard size. As a result I’ve managed to bid for and win a Campagnolo Record bottom bracket on Ebay. I’m paying £15 which seems pretty reasonable. It has a 111mm axle which means that it can take the Campagnolo Record Pita chainset too.
Once I’ve sorted out the bottom bracket it’ll be headset and forks time. I’ve measured my frames headtube diameter (internal diameter of 30mm – again that’s British and ISO standard) and head tube length (130mm) so I’m going to try and get hold of a 1″ threaded chrome forks and a Campagnolo Record headset.
The bottom bracket is arriving later this week so I’ve got myself a tub of grease and a new spanner. Sounds like next weekend will be a whole lot of fun.
The frame no is 4811154
